The Coathangers completely blew me away when I went to see them a few weeks ago at their only London show. One thing I noticed straight away was that they were really enjoying themselves being up there on stage, and if they’re having a good time – I’m having a good time! They really did bring the party and jumped into their set with a bang! I loved the way they shared lead vocals between the guitarist (Julia Kugel) and drummer (Stephanie Luke) – it was like Kathleen Hanna meeting Brody Dalle for a pint and even bassist Meredith Franco had her turn shouting into the mic towards the end of the set. It’s also sooo freakin’ cool when a band swaps instruments during a set like ‘no biggie, you thought I was just gonna stay here, well I’m just gonna kick some ass over here too…!’
I bumped into Julia after their set and told her that I would buy everything they’ve ever released (I’m new to The Coathangers’ party you see)! Sound the klaxon ladies and gents – New Favourite Band alert!!!
