I remember when I first discovered Fefe Dobson. I was on holiday and was watching the German music channel VIVA. She burst onto my TV screen full of energy and I was taken aback by her powerful voice, her presence, her beauty but most of all, by the fact that I saw something of myself in her. Here she was, a young woman of colour making her mark in the pop rock world and I was loving it!
Soon after that, I purchased her self titled debut album and made a point of keeping up to date with whatever she was doing. Even to the extent that when Rihanna famously cut her hair into the short pixie style, I was firmly in the “she copied Fefe Dobson” camp!
And who could blame Fefe’s fans for sticking up for her like that. It was during this time that the songstress was unceremoniously dropped from her record label after producing (in my most humble opinion) one of the best pop rock records of that era in the form of Sunday Love.
So when Fefe Dobson came to London to promote her latest album, “Joy” it was a no brainer for me that I would try my best to meet her and get an interview out of it!
