  1. Monster

Now that Iā€™ve filmed my Top 10 Paramore songs video, Iā€™ve edited it and Iā€™ve taken a step back, I can say hand on heart that I really wish I put this song in there! Every time I hear the opening notes and the off beat drum and bass rhythms, my face changes to that frown that people make when all they can do is appreciate the levels of musical badassary. Brilliant song! Riddims people!!

  1. Thatā€™s What You Get

[Ugh! This song shouldā€™ve been in my Top 10 too!! Why is this so hardā€¦??!!]

Have you ever really listened to this song? Do me a favour. Listen to the opening bars of this song. Then listen to the first verse and then the chorus. Now sit down and appreciate the actual boss levels of mixing time signatures within this one song! (3/4, 6/4 and 4/4 in case you were wondering!) Itā€™s so well done, so seamless that you donā€™t even realise it when youā€™re singing along. My favourite part is the opening vocal line contrasted with the rhythm of the bass line! Maaaatttee!!! Thatā€™s what we call brilliant song crafting.

  1. Decode

Twilight holds such a special place in my heart having read all the books to even organising giggly girly trips to the cinema on its release. But if Iā€™m being honest though, the best thing about the movie was Decode. The second best thing of course was Robert Pattinson and the third, Taylor Lautnerā€™s shirtless scenes but I digress. This song perfectly captured a moment and all the feels that the Twilight films seemed to miss the mark on. The guitars are expertly balanced between light and heavy and the chorus steps it up into great sing-along territory! ā€œHow did we get heeerrrreeā€¦.?ā€

  1. Rose Coloured Boy

Low-key, (see what I did there ;-)) I think Iā€™m actually in love with the breakdown and bridge of this song. It is just perfection. Thinking about the lyrics for a moment, I just donā€™t know how it is even possible to create an image of something so literal, ā€œLeave me here a little bit longer, I think I wanna stay in the car…ā€ yet so poetic. How do you do it? How?? Loving the juxtaposition of the melancholic lyrics and upbeat sparkly riddims. Yaaaaass!!

  1. Misguided Ghosts

Hummm, I feel like this is quite a low position for this songā€¦(checks list and comes back) yeah I canā€™t actually put it any higher, but let me tell you this, I think VERY highly of this song. Itā€™s such a beautiful melody and they cleverly stripped it back to an acoustic recording so that we can fully appreciate the tenderness of Hayleyā€™s voice. Gorgeous!

  1. Ignorance

If this song isnā€™t playing when Iā€™m on the treadmill in the gym am I even putting in my maximum effort? The answer is a simple no. This is that song that gets me pumped AF! It makes me wanna stick it to the man. It makes me wanna break stuff. It makes me wanna call my exes and tell them to go F themselves! All very productive and healthy feelings! Teeheee!

  1. All I Wanted

Paramore super fans will know why this song is here. Like me, they would have watched those fan made compilation videos of Hayleyā€™s vocal range and like me they would get tingles on the back of their necks when the music cuts and she hits that top note on ā€œyoooouuuuuuuā€. Damn! Vocalists out there, take note of the technique cause this song is a master class in vocal control.

  1. Moving on / Holiday / Iā€™m Not Angry Anymore (Basically all the Interludes on Self Titled!)

These are the cheery yukelele numbers that pleasantly cut through the Self-Titled album. I love the honesty in them. I love the tongue in cheek take on adulting in the song ā€˜Holidayā€™. The reference to eating Top Ramen got me like, ā€œYo, this girl knows my life!ā€

  1. Franklin

This song is so dreamy and it has me feeling nostalgic for a life that I never lived. It makes me think of standing by my locker in a crowded Highschool corridor between homeroom and first period. The other kids are a blur rushing by whilst Iā€™m in slow motion (obvs). I allow my mind to wander, thinking back to how we were and how everything will change once we all graduate and head off to college. My friends and I are on the prom planning committee and we have lots to do to ensure that itā€™s the best prom ā€œlikeā€ ever! I hear my name being called in the distanceā€¦ ā€œNataliaā€¦ Nataliaā€¦.ā€, It gets louder untilā€¦.

Ahemā€¦. Oh wow! Sorry I think I just drifted off thereā€¦.

  1. Looking Up

I used to be in a band and this song would always inspire me to think about how cool it would be to be on the road with my mates playing music in different locations every night and having fans sing the songs back to you. Thatā€™s the dream isnā€™t it? I love the line, ā€œGod knows the world doesnā€™t need another band, but what a waste it would have beenā€¦ā€. What truer statement has been made especially when referring to Paramore?

If youā€™ve read all the way down to here then youā€™re probably a huge Paramore fan! I think I can speak for all of us when I say that it would have been a huge waste of gigantic proportions if Paramore did not exist. Iā€™m so happy that through all the ups and down, Paramore is still around and are consistently creating the most amazing, well thought out, technical, emotive, touching and fun music that will stay with us for years and years to come!
